Evo 2014 Day 2 Closes with Street Fighter Matador Vega Short Film

Yodelayhee!

After the evening's final Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 matches, Evo 2014 Day 2 finished with a screening of Chubby Boy Films' short film Matador, an origin story for Street Fighter II boss character Vega (or Balrog if you prefer the original Japanese name.) If such things interest you, a Youtube upload is already available:

Like most fighting games, the Street Fighter series is generally a gameplay first, story second affair. Regardless, its lore has been adapted into every storytelling medium imaginable. Matador is about as earnest an attempt as you'll find. It's a bit hampered by budgetary restrictions — and things get a little cheesy as more elements directly from the games come in — but it's all handled with an obvious care and affection for the franchise and its characters. Vega has long been a fan favorite and the effort behind this origin tale is more than admirable.

Unfortunately, you're missing half the fun if you didn't catch it during the Evo stream. It was quite surreal watching such a sincere bit of Street Fighter storytelling unfold with ridiculous viewer commentary scrolling along beside it:

Never change, Twitch chat. Never change.

That's it for now. 'Til next time, feel free to follow and "like" CGS on Twitter & Facebook!
