The Combiner Wars Aerialbots Get Their Slingshot After All!

Surprise!

As featured in Castle Geek-Skull's latest Weekly Want post, Takara Tomy is bringing an actual Slingshot our way. "Combiner Wars" Superion has always looked promising, but it was definitely a bummer that one of the original crew had been replaced. I chalked up the inclusion of placeholder 'Bot Alpha Bravo to necessary cost cuts, but now I'm not sure what to think!

There's at least some penny-pinching going on since Slingshot is merely comprised of Firefly's body with a new head, but he more than looks the part. Having this guy in place will make the Combiner Wars Aerialbots feel far more "complete" than Alpha Bravo ever could. Initially believed to be a Japanese-only "Unite Warriors" release, a corresponding American version quickly turned up in Toys "R" Us computers. The missing Stunticon Wildrider was even listed alongside him!

He just wanted to be loved.

It's going to be great having all of the classic combiner characters represented, but I can't help feeling bad for Alpha Bravo and his Decepticon counterpart Offroad. My empathy knows no bounds! As the "new guys," they were always going to be a tough sell for some of the die-hard Transformers collectors out there. With more accurate options on the way, they might be even less desirable. Deviations from the highly treasured originals aren't easy for some to forgive.

Thinking positively, perhaps some will be able to enjoy Alpha Bravo and Offroad even more now. There are plenty of Transformers fans out there that prefer new 'Bots and 'Cons over the endless stream of homages and re-imagined legacy characters. Provided I'm able to spare the cash, I might still give them a shot. When it comes to Superion and Menasor however, I probably won't be able to resist sticking with the original crew all the way.
