The Joy of the Game Grumps' Wind Waker Victory is Infectious

Perhaps the greatest selfie of all time.

Amidst the craziness of E3 2014, the popular Youtube gaming duo Game Grumps posted their The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD finale. The 73-part playthrough took around 7 months from start to finish, and the joy of host Danny Sexbang upon seeing the credits roll was absolutely infectious. I'll quote the man himself; "Oh my fucking god, dude, we beat Wind Waker!"

With plenty of scrolling character portraits, Wind Waker's credits allow the perfect opportunity to reminisce over the adventures you just had. Egoraptor and Mr. Sexbang did exactly that, and the mood was wonderfully triumphant. There was also a strong hint of relief from the former, understandable given the insane amount of backlash he received whenever a particular episode featured less than masterful gameplay. Everyone knows the Youtube comment section is one of the biggest internet hate machines out there. It's best left ignored, but it's hard not to be bothered when thousands of people are telling you how horrible you are because you're "bad" at a freaking video game.

Hmph. I beat Ganon without losing a single heart. This guy SUCKS, thumbs down!

Despite what the waves of nasty comments would have you believe, I like to think games are more about entertainment, exploration, escape, and other things that start with "e." (If you like Pokemon, let's go with Exeggcute.) It looks like people often lose sight of that. Simply hearing these two guys get pumped over beating another game was a great reminder that the primary reason to get into this particular hobby should be to simply have fun. When you can enjoy a game with a friend, hey, it's even better, and isn't that the big allure of the two-host "Let's Play" format in the first place?

That's certainly why I watch Game Grumps. Doing so has even helped inspire me in my own endeavors over time. Even if there are obvious prompts missed or other mistakes made during playthroughs, I'm going to keep watching as long as there are fun, uplifting moments like the pure joy shown after beating Wind Waker.
