Star-Spangled Superhero FanArt Frenzy!

The United States' Independence Day has fallen upon us once again, and of course, I've been seeing Captain America this and Captain America that all day long. I like Cap just fine, but I haven't seen a single mention of any of the myriad of other superheroes that don the stars and stripes. It'd be great if there was a little more love going around for the rest. With that in mind, the latest edition of FanArt Frenzy was born:

Irene Flores of beanclam.tumblr.com brings us this incredibly striking image of America Chavez, the most recent character to don the "Miss America" name in Marvel Comics. Those unfamiliar with her should check out the 2013 Young Avengers series.

I suppose this could be either Commander Steel or Citizen Steel (from Justice Society of America vol. 3), but either way, this patriotic DC / Marvel crossover from Darren Rawlings is wonderfully cute.

Stargirl (another well known modern JSA member) might not have had a particularly patriotic or even well-intentioned impetus behind her costume choice, but she ultimately grew to become quite the hero. This sketch is from the "nacholumpia" Tumblr.

This drawing of Patriot (Eli Bradley, originally from The Young Avengers) by DeviantArt's starxfruit is certainly an interesting one. I'm always open to a "super-deformed" take on any character, but the lack of a nose is a little peculiar. Either way, it's still a nice piece of artwork.

A product of the 1990s, SuperPatriot (a supporting Savage Dragon character, as well as the star of a few series of his own) has a pretty over the top design. Even so, this fan art from Francisco Munoz is stellar.

With American Maid from The Tick animated series, the silliness was completely intentional. As demonstrated by SuperGon-64, the Maid throws her heels much like Captain America throws his shield. Despite the goofiness inherent in her status as a parody character, she almost seemed earnest compared to the rest of The Tick's cast.

DC Comics has their own Miss America (obtained from their 1950s Quality Comics buyout), and she's an absolute classic. She was captured wonderfully here by Michelle Sciuto, who also has a great rendition of Marvel's current Miss America. Seeing vibrantly colored, cleanly rendered pieces like this always makes me wish I had more time to keep developing my own artwork.

This group is only a small margin of the superheroes adorned with star-spangled costumes. Regardless, finding relevant fan art was a bit of challenging venture. Of course, Captain America has tons, but that's to be expected.
