Super Smash Bros. FanArt Frenzy!

Smashy smashy.

Hey now. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS was finally released in North America and Europe today! I can't play it just yet, but I'm stoked that it's finally here. Between watching frantic early gameplay and admiring the wide variety of awesome stages, I felt inspired to check out the inevitable onslaught of new Smash fanart. Let's look through some examples!

From Karl Fan: Lucina from Fire Emblem.

New Captain America and Thor FanArt Frenzy!

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes!

Despite the recent nature of Marvel's major character shakeups (with Falcon replacing Steve Rogers as Captain America and an undetermined female character taking over the mantle of Thor), the announcements have already captured the imaginations of comic fans all over. It might not be on the level of the recent Batgirl fanart just yet, but plenty of artwork featuring the new Cap and Thor designs is beginning to pour in. That means it's FanArt Frenzy time!

This striking Thor piece is from DeviantArt user TheRedKid.

Fighting Game FanArt Frenzy

In honor of the Evolution 2014 fighting game tournament (taking place this weekend, July 11-13), it seemed appropriate to showcase characters from some of its featured games in the latest edition of FanArt Frenzy. No need for flowery, silly text up front — let's just jump right in!

This gorgeous illustration of Jin Kazama from the Tekken series comes from DeviantArt's istdog.

Visions of Batman Dancing in My Head

:O

Of the many "Bad Batman Drawings" I produced last year for the blog/website project of the same name, this was one of my favorites. While going through files on my computer today, I rediscovered its original inspiration:

Star-Spangled Superhero FanArt Frenzy!

The United States' Independence Day has fallen upon us once again, and of course, I've been seeing Captain America this and Captain America that all day long. I like Cap just fine, but I haven't seen a single mention of any of the myriad of other superheroes that don the stars and stripes. It'd be great if there was a little more love going around for the rest. With that in mind, the latest edition of FanArt Frenzy was born:

Irene Flores of beanclam.tumblr.com brings us this incredibly striking image of America Chavez, the most recent character to don the "Miss America" name in Marvel Comics. Those unfamiliar with her should check out the 2013 Young Avengers series.

Transformers FanArt Frenzy!

On the last edition of Fanart Frenzy, I compiled various early examples of Luigi Death Stare fan art. What can I say? The reaction to Mario Kart 8 has been a joy to behold. However, it's time to move on! As I stare the release of Transformers: Age of Extinction in the face, it occurred to me that this would be the perfect time to throw together a Transformers FanArt Frenzy! Here we go:

In the spirit of "hey, why not", Zikya from Deviant Art has blessed us with a vision of Armada Starscream playing guitar. Oddly enough, I think I'm OK with this.

"8-Bit Artist" Paints Final Fantasy VI Final Boss Fight

Dancing Mad

In today's "hey, that's just plain cool" news, retro gaming fan artist "8-Bit Artist" has fully recreated the final boss fight from Final Fantasy VI, including the Statue of the Gods and the final godlike form of Kefka himself. I've never been shy about declaring my love for that game, so seeing this pretty much made my day. The 3-panel piece stands 9 feet tall when combined, and looks to be a highly accurate recreation of the immensely detailed original sprites and backgrounds. Check it out:

Luigi Death Stare FanArt Frenzy!

Be afraid.

On the last edition of "FanArt Frenzy," I celebrated the release of the X-Men: Days of Future Past movie with a nice assortment of mutant centric doodles and sketches. This week, the "Luigi Death Stare" from the ever-alluring Mario Kart 8 has been all the rage. It's been such a widespread meme that even major news media outlets were compelled to cover it, and sure enough, plenty of fans are putting pen to paper to immortalize Luigi's ice-cold gaze in illustrated form. Let's check out a few examples!

X-Men FanArt Frenzy!

The strangest super-heroes of all!

Y'all need to hide your kids and hide your wife; it's time for the return of FanArt Frenzy! This installment features 10 X-Men sketches and scribblings to celebrate the impending box office reign of the new X-Men: Days of Future Past movie film. You came here for the art, so let's jump right in:

Spider-Man FanArt Frenzy

Spider-Man Fan Art
Look out, here comes the Spider-Man!

Ohhhh snip snap, it's time for another edition of FanArt Frenzy! In case you didn't hear, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was unsurprisingly the top earning movie in North America on its opening weekend. Ever the opportunist, I figured now was as good a time as any to feature some fanart of the old webhead. While I mentioned being glad to showcase a character from DC Comics last week with Cyborg, I'm more than happy to make Spider-Man my third Marvel feature after Captain America and Moon Knight. Enough babble, let's go ahead and thwip our way into some Spidey art:

Cyborg FanArt Frenzy!

Cyborg DC art

With the recent news that Cyborg will be featured in Zack Snyder's upcoming Batman & Superman movie, I felt a Cyborg FanArt Frenzy was in order! My other character-specific showcases have been Marvel focused thus far (with Captain America and Moon Knight) so I'm pleased to finally give DC Comics some love. Enough babble, you came here for fan art! Don't just stand there, let's get to it:

Video Game Star Hand Drawings!

video game fanart

As previously documented, one of my go-to pass-times is to draw all over my hand. Why waste paper, right? I've already shown off a compilation of Transformers hand drawings, and the madness is far from over. This time around, I have defiled my gorgeous palm with assorted video game stars. They're not all lead characters, but they're plenty famous. Onwards, my beloved webzone visitors:

Moon Knight FanArt Frenzy!

Look out, it's FanArt Frenzy time once again! Last week's installment focused solely on Captain America illustrations to celebrate the new Cap movie's release. This time around we're taking it to a slightly darker corner of the Marvel universe: Moon Knight!

Saturday

Captain America FanArt Frenzy!

This week's FanArt Frenzy will break from the established format a bit to focus only on Captain America drawings! No need for flowery introductions, let's get right to it!

Best Of: Bad Batman Drawings!

At the beginning of last year, I started a new blog project: Bad Batman Drawing! Every day, once a day, I aimed to post crappy drawings of Batman and other related characters. Crappy drawings like this:

What a lovely Bat symbol. What a lovely everything.

FanArt Frenzy Mar 27, 2014: Featuring Clockworkdandy, w/ Snoopy, Star Trek, Starbomb, & Hellboy!

Welcome to FanArt Frenzy Compilation #2! This week's feature is the wonderful Clockworkdandy:

This combination of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and The Peanuts' Snoopy and Woodstock taps into a fun level of madness only found in the best mashups. Imagining these two getting into the same nonsense as the character's they are dressed as is quite amusing indeed.

FanArt Frenzy Mar 20, 2014: Featuring NHOJ. Batman, Iron Man, Mega Man, & More!

Welcome to Fan Art Frenzy, a weekly compilation of some of our favorite fan art and artists! To kick off our maiden voyage, I'd like to point you to the works of John Cullen from "NHOJ: Adventures in Drawing":

This is the first piece that drew my attention to NHOJ. This is a series of Batman drawings done completely with his eyes closed. I believe several artists have tackled this idea, but this is easily the most fun attempt I've seen.

Transformers Hand Drawings

Boredom.

Like everyone, I just flat out get bored sometimes. Maybe I'm somewhere I don't want to be. Maybe I'm horrifically lost in my own thoughts. Maybe I'm experiencing that awesome "First World Problem" of wanting to play any of the numerous video games I own and not being able to decide which one! Whatever the scenario, my go-to time waster is often to draw on anything I can. Often times I will have a pen or sharpie but no form of paper. However, these urges to sketch can not be deterred by such trivial obstacles. Not a chance! In these instances, I just draw right on my freakin' hand.

As one of my greatest lifelong interests, the Transformers franchise is one of my most frequent hand-drawing subjects. Here's a compilation for your viewing pleasure and/or mockery:
