Mortal Kombat creator and creative director Ed Boon recently "re-tweeted" a fan image of Scorpion staring down a Predator, complete with Mortal Kombat X logo. As you might expect, many of those that follow the goings on of the fighting game world found the idea rather exciting. The re-tweet got plenty of attention:
Of course, licensed guest characters are nothing new for fighting games. The previous Mortal Kombat game featured Kratos and Freddy Krueger, the Soul Calibur series has featured the likes of Spawn, Link, Yoda, and Darth Vader, and it's impossible to forget the appearances of Solid Snake, Sonic the Hedgehog, and now Mega Man and Pac-Man in Smash Bros. This extends to other genres as well. On a very related note, the recent Predator killstreak from the Call of Duty: Ghosts Devastation DLC comes to mind. Does that mean that having a playable Preadtor in Mortal Kombat X is likely to happen however?
Eh. My guess would be "probably not." It has to be remembered that the origin of the image behind all of the hype was purely fan driven. I can imagine working out the licensing would be difficult as well, significantly more than it was with a Warner Bros. owned character like Freddy Krueger. Boon was smart to share the image, as it got people talking and websites buzzing, but it's hard to imagine any potential for it becoming a reality at this point. If I'm ever proven wrong somewhere down the line, well hey, that's just fine. The Predator would probably fit right in with the rest of the ridiculously violent MK cast. Even so, I figure it's a pipe dream at best.

Update: As of March, 2015, the XBox Store listing for Mortal Kombat X lists Predator as an official playable character. Further details are pending!
Dude. Boon. I met you once in Vegas at Ballys for the pdp mk tournament. You were a good guy. I'm afraid if you put the predator in mk x you will be the best guy. :)
