Tekken 7 Announcement Leak Diminished its Potential Excitement

King of the Iron Leak

While it was quickly taken down, AOL leaked a news video meant to reveal Tekken 7 earlier today. It's assumed this may have been meant to coincide with a special announcement at the Evo 2014 fighting game tournament, but the gun was jumped somehow.

With the proper context, this could have been an exciting announcement. The limited information provided (which amounts to "Tekken 7 is coming, and it will be powered by the Unreal Engine 4") doesn't have much of a wow-factor now that it's been put out in the open in an unintended fashion. I'm glad to see that the Tekken series is continuing, but I would have greatly preferred to learn about it in the most exciting manner possible.

As is, the story that's circulating is focused almost entirely on the fact that there was a leak rather than the game itself. That's really too bad. Maybe it's not worth being overzealous with a new game reveal if the details are sparse, especially if it's a somewhat predictable sequel.

UPDATE: Tekken project leader Katsuhiro Harada did ultimately take the stage at Evo 2014 to share an early teaser for the game.

OK, on to happier subjects! Until next time, you can catch up with Castle Geek-Skull's goings on via Twitter & Facebook!
