I Love This Ultra Street Fighter IV Hugo vs Zangief Match

Get grabbed.

In another adventure through the Youtube vortex, I came across an incredibly fun Ultra Street Fighter IV match featuring Hugo vs Zangief from a semi-recent "Wednesday Night Fights" event. Ch-check it out:

There's a lot to love here. From a pure character standpoint, you have two heavy hitting grapplers going at it — the famous Red Cyclone and the newly added German wrestler from Final Fight and Street Fighter III. Hugo is even in one of his crazy alternate costumes! The fact that this particular set is being played by Snake Eyez (the preeminent Zangief expert) and Mike Ross (fan favorite E. Honda specialist) makes the whole affair even better. Best of all? Any shots of these guys between rounds show that they're having a blast. There's no nonsensical drama or bad sportsmanship going on here — it's just two guys having fun trying out the latest version of a game they love, and that's always great to see. All of that in tow with a close finish and commentary by the popular duo of James Chen and UltraDavid makes for quite an enjoyable Street Fighter match.

Despite my love of fighting games, my interest in watching tournament play and professional matches tends to wax and wane. Since finding this video, my passion for it has been fully restored. The impending Evo 2014 (taking place July 11-13) probably has a lot to do with it as well. If you're also a fan of the genre, type in a random game you like into Youtube sometime. It can make for a dangerous time sink, but there are some real gems out there that are well worth checking out.

Ultra Street Fighter IV's digital upgrade is already available for download, but the disc release is hitting shelves August 5, 2014. It can be pre-ordered now for $39.96 at Amazon.

Game over. Until next time, you can find me on Twitter and Facebook!
