Greg Capullo's Batman #36 Cover Is Pure Nightmare Fuel

'Sup. I'm about to eat your soul.

I don't know about you, but I find the cover of the upcoming Batman #36 quite disturbing.

Naturally, illustrator Greg Capullo has a wealth of experience in the realm of the hellish and horrific given his many years of work on the Spawn franchise. When your story calls for casting one of the most heroic of all superheros in a creepy light, I can think of no one better to make that happen. Just look at those eyes, man. Yeesh.

While Capullo quickly established himself as one of best in the business at pouring innumerable tiny details onto every centimeter of a page, he's also proven quite effective at dialing things back to offer clean, powerfully stylized imagery that demands attention. We've seen a lot of that during his run on Batman, and this cover is no exception.

Making your own ketchup just isn't worth the mess.

Beyond the highly effective execution, the mere suggestion of Superman gone mad is enough to unsettle. That kind of power in the hands of the Joker is nasty business indeed. After one look at this, you know some serious shit is about to go down.

Batman #36, which hits shelves on November 12, is the second part of the 6 issue "Endgame" story arc. Thus far, DC has elected to keep the plot synopsis to themselves. Even so, I can image the cover alone is going to move plenty of copies. If you're in the unfortunate position of not having a decent comic store around, TFAW.com is already taking orders.
