Mortal Kombat X Gameplay Looks to be a Solid Progression (E3 2014)

Scorpion and Sub-Zero face off in Mortal Kombat X

The recent Mortal Kombat X teaser had many assuming stage interactables ala Injustice would be a major part of the gameplay. There seemed to be a big focus on Scorpion and Sub-Zero using the environment around them to beat each other down for the umpteenth time. Sony's presentation at E3 2014 featured our first glimpse of actual gameplay, and interactables do indeed seem to be a big part of the game moving forward. Here's what we've seen thus far:

Taking place in the world of DC Comics, Injustice offered interactables far more interesting than the likes of crates and tree limbs, but I'm sure those elements only scratch the surface of what lies ahead for Mortal Kombat X. Beyond that, the two stages the trailer focused on weren't especially pretty, but the dark tone is absolutely perfect for the series. The gameplay itself was at the forefront, featuring some impressively fast and fluid action. My last personal experience with Mortal Kombat was one of the clunkier Playstation 2 era titles, so I'm glad to see that the series has progressed.

Ouch. Here, let me give you a band-aid for that.

Of course, no Mortal Kombat game is complete without Fatalities. The E3 gameplay trailer ends with a brief montage of various gratuitous and over the top displays of gore. If triumphantly squeezing a heart to a complete bloody pulp over your face doesn't say victory, I don't know what does.

Mortal Kombat X is set for release on June 30th, 2015. I'm sure there will be many more reveals coming our way before then.

That'll do it for now. You can keep up with my future posts by following on Twitter @castlegeekskull and liking on Facebook!
