Angry Birds Transformers: May As Well Do It Right!

...Bird bots in disguise?

Rovio recently announced that their next Angry Birds crossover will be none other than Angry Birds Transformers. My favorite robots in disguise may be a pretty big deal culturally, but I can't say this is something I ever expected to see. Still, I figure if they're going to do it, they may as well do it right! If the initial promo image for the game is anything to go by, it looks like they just may be.

Can Transformers: Robots in Disguise Recapture the Magic of Animated?

Sideswipe, Bumblebee, and Fixit from Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2015)

Courtesy of a recent Variety.com article, we know the next Transformers cartoon series will be a follow up to Prime titled Transformers: Robots in Disguise. Hmm, that sounds familiar.

Me Grimlock say empty your wallets now!

Toys and collectibles. I often want them. On the "Weekly Want," I share the latest product reveals and promo shots that have struck my fancy. Last week's "Weekly Want" had cool thangs such as Revol Mini Iron Man Mark VI and Transformers Masterpiece Wheeljack. Now, let's move on to all of the lovely wallet draining goods from May 26th through June 2nd!

Twitter Reminds Me Of Oldschool Myspace in the Best Way

star wars chewbacca
How could I possibly say no?

When Myspace was still huge back in 1812 (ooh, such original and scathing commentary!) my favorite aspect of it was not in listening to low quality music uploads or keeping up with anyone I actually knew. I had much more fun filling my friend list with endless parody accounts.

There were many wonderfully bored individuals spending their time creating entire Myspace profiles under the guise of characters like Batman, Leon Kennedy, and even freakin' David Lo Pan. It was actually pretty amusing. Even better? More and more began to send me friend requests over time. Aww, shucks. It was a blast while it lasted.

It's not something I ever thought I'd say, but Twitter is actually reminding of Myspace these days. Rest assured, if there's a character or personality you like, you'll often find someone essentially roleplaying as them for all to see. Let's check out a few of my recent finds!

Weekly Want May 19-26 feat. Masterpiece Wheeljack, Iron Man, & SDCC Exclusives

Another week. Another wave of want.

Oh no, it's "Weekly Want" time once more! Last week's installment featured some cute Godzilla Minimates, DC Collectibles' animated Batman figures, and so on! On to more pressing matters: let's see what May 19-26 had to offer in the realm of action figure and collectible promotional imagery:

Weekly Want May 12-19 feat. Batman, Godzilla, TMNT, & More!

Batman Animated Series Joker DC Collectibles
If you've kept up with my recent posts, this should come as no surprise.

I was apparently too busy to get a "Weekly Want" post up last week, but I featured the likes of Captain America Figmas and LEGO Ghostbusters the week prior. What madness lies ahead this week? Stay tuned, lovely readers:

Evangelion Doritos! How Did I Miss These?!

Neon Genesis Evangelion Doritos
The most natural product tie-in ever.

Why am I only just now finding out that there were Doritos manufactured with Evangelion artwork all over the packaging? These were only recently pointed out to me by Twitter's JapanCinema. Upon further investigation, the Evangelion branded Doritos were originally on the shelves seven years ago! What was I doing with my life in 2007 that was too important to notice such wonderment? Furthermore, why do I want them so freaking bad?

Even the "Worst" Action Figures Still Have Merit!

ToyBiz Spider Man action figure
Web-Suction Hands!

This is Marvel Superheroes Spider-Man, the first in a long line of 1990s Spidey action figure releases from Toy Biz. It hasn't aged well, and it honestly might have been a bit lackluster even at the time of its release. After all, the most significant advancement over the Secret Wars Spidey from six years prior was articulated knees. Big whoop, right? Regardless, when I received this figure on Christmas morning of 1990, I was absolutely awe-struck. I only vaguely remember the exact moment, but I know it was a pretty big deal.

15 Random Pictures From My First Free Comic Book Day

Star Wars Tusken Raider Cosplay
I see Sand People.

As previously mentioned, I somehow managed to miss every Free Comic Book Day up until now. I am happy to report that the curse has been lifted! With the promise of Tusken Raider cosplay fresh in mind, I made the effort to venture to my nearest comic shop today and I had a grand time overall. Here are 15 random pictures that loosely illustrate my adventure:

Ultra Magnus Masterpiece Transformers
Shut up and take my money!

It is time once more for the "Weekly Want" action figure and collectible promo shot compilation! In the April 14-21 Weekly Want I covered everything from Arkham City statues to an awesome Hot Toys Spider-Man. Of course, there were plenty of "want" inducing goodies shown off this week as well, so let's check 'em out:

Theater Lobby Displays: The Object of my Wide-Eyed, Geeky Desire

Grimlock Age of Extinction Lobby Standee
Grimlock from Transformers: Age of Extinction

I just came across this Transformers: Age of Extinction Grimlock lobby display courtesy of dj_67knights, and my mind flooded with all of the other awesome giant-size promotional materials I've come across in theaters over the years. I've never thought to photograph them myself, but I was at least able to scour the internets for examples. Onward:

Ahoy there, it's time once again for the "Weekly Want," a rundown of some of the past week's coolest new toy and collectible promo shots! If you missed last week's installment, let the beauty of linkage assist you: Weekly Want Apr 7-14. Now, on to more current affairs:

Sunday

10 of the Best Optimus Prime Toys

It's Easter Sunday as of this posting, so it's only natural to have resurrection on the brain. When I think resurrection, I think Optimus Prime: the beloved Autobot hero (or murder machine, if we're counting the live action movie iteration) who has died and come back to life more times than I'm comfortable counting.

The number of toy releases the character has had is far more shocking however. The Transformers franchise has several iconic characters and designs, but it would be difficult to argue that any of them trump Optimus as the most recognizable. As such, the development team at Hasbro has made sure sure there's an Optimus Prime available in the action figure aisle at pretty much all times.

Fortunately, the character's role as a leader and a major selling point for the brand means that there's usually considerable effort put into his toys. I've kept it awfully wordy thus far, but this is indeed a list post. Let's get to it: in chronological order, here are 10 of the best Optimus Prime toys released thus far!

Weekly Want April 7-14 with Play Arts Kai Watchmen, ARTFX+ Star Wars, & More!

New feature time! This is the "Weekly Want," showing a small compilation of cool action figures and other geeky goods that had new promotional shots released over the past week. Here are a few of the rad items that caught my eye between April 7th and 14th:

Frame Arms Kotobukiya RF-12B Second Jive

Let's Build the Most Kick-Ass Action Figure Rock Band Ever!

If something decent enough rhymed with "crack" I'd have started this post with "Let's (blank) out with our plastic-crack out!" As it stands, I'll just say...hi. How are you?

While most action figures come with melee weapons and guns, there are an elite few whose fictional counterparts allow them a much more interesting set of accessories: musical instruments! If I were to compile one kick-ass rock band of my favorites, the lineup would be as follows:

How "Transformers: the Movie" Taught Me That Credits Matter!

A gigantic chunk of my childhood was spent watching Transformers: The Movie from 1986 over and over again. I geeked out over it more with each viewing. I ultimately found myself interested in the end credits as well. As the cast list rolled by, seeing the names of kick-ass voice actors like Michael Bell, Peter Cullen, and the godly Frank Welker credited as not just one but several of my favorite fictional characters made a giant impression on me. Just like that, I had yet another interest to fully immerse myself in.

Transformers Generations Scourge Toy Review

It was recently announced that one of the upcoming exclusive toys for Botcon 2014 (the official Transformers Collector's Convention) will be none other than Devcon, the bounty-hunting Autobot from the Generation 1 episode "The Gambler." Devcon has a small but passionate fanbase, and their cries for a decent toy of him have been plenty loud over the years. While the means do not exist to make Botcon toys all-new from head to toe, we're getting the next best thing: a remold and redeco of Transformers: Generations Scourge:

The end result is a fair likeness and should make for a great toy. In light of the news, I figured it would be a good idea to revisit the toy in its original form. Let's get to it!
